How to Replace the Fuel Pump on a Murray Mower

A Murray riding mower includes a Briggs & Stratton gas engine that includes a fuel pump. Fuel travels in the gas tank to the cylinder, and then the pump sprays fuel into the carburetor for starting and running the engine. Fuel pump failure is indicated by the motor taking more time to start when turning the ignition key, loss of electricity on hills or beneath heaps of thicker Lawn for example in San Diego Care service Phoenix, AZ, or even the motor not starting in any way. Replacing the gas pump requires only a couple tools and saves you the expense of a repair store trip.

Park your Murray mower on a flat, level surface. Depress the brake pedal with your left foot. Press the throttle lever on the left side of the dashboard down to slow. Set the parking brake on the left side of the dashboard and turn the ignition key away. Open the hood of the mower, remove the spark plug wire and boot from the spark plug. Allow the motor to cool completely.

Find the gas pump on your own lawn (Salt Lake City, UT) mower by tracing the gas line from the gas tank to the inlet on the gas pump. The fuel pump is just a black component that mounts on the motor and the socket fuel line contributes to the carburetor.

Put a hemostat about 3 inches in the gas pump on both lines and then squeeze them tightly to reduce loss of gasoline.

Put a set of pliers on the hose clamps on each of the gas lines and then pinch them together. Subsequently slide them toward the hemostats on every side of the gas pump.

Hold a small disposable container near the gas pump. Remove the inlet and outlet gas lines you a time over the container to catch fuel spills.

Remove the two bolts that secure the fuel pump into the motor with an adjustable canopy. Expand the boltholes at a brand new fuel pump, replace the bolts, and tighten them clockwise with an adjustable wrench.

Press the inlet and outlet fuel lines onto the brand new fuel pump. Pinch the hose clamps with pliers and then move them into the gas pump on every side to hold it in position. Release the hose clamps. Remove the hemostats in the gas lines. Replace the spark plug wire and boot.
