How to Install a Grille in an Andersen Window

Andersen window models with removable grilles balance the conventional appearance of window mullions with low budget and maintenance recognition. Simple to install, most Andersen inside grilles are installed with just one of two basic styles of mounting hardware.

Pointed Push-In Fasteners

Lock the window so it remains stationary as you are working on it.

Place the grille on the glass pane so it sits flush with the window frame. Use a pencil to mark the location of the middle of each grille’s finish on the frame. If your window has grille fastener notches, simply wash out the notches with the hint of a fastener.

Push the fasteners to the notches or the marked places with the plastic fastener installation tool provided by Andersen when you bought your windows or grilles. If you don’t have the tool, use a wooden block. The fastener and the tool should be flat against the glass. Insert a thin, flat piece of plastic or a playing card between the fastener and the glass to prevent scratching. Use a tiny muscle and thrust straight into the window frame, not down against the pane.

Place the grille in position against the windowpane. Insert the bottom of the grilles to the bottom fasteners.

Push the grille downward so it flexes just a little, and snap the top grille ends to the top fasteners. Push and snap the side members into place.

Integrated Spring-Loaded Pins

Clean out the grille holes around the perimeter of the pane with a vacuum cleaner or a pipe cleaner.

Position the grille against the window and then insert the clips on the left side into their respective holes.

Repeat the process at the bottom.

Insert the company’s plastic application card between a grille clip along with its hole around the left hand side. Catch the member into place. The spring-loaded pin will enter the hole when you remove the protective card. Do all the clips on this side, then move on to the top clips.
