Hotel to Home: Capture a Greek Haven's Divine Design

Summer is in full swing, and nothing says “provincial holiday” such as Cycladic villas perched by the Aegean sea — a description that perfectly defines Mykonos Blu hotel, a string of island bungalows and private villas overlooking the famous Psarou Beach in idyllic Mykonos, Greece. Let us look carefully at the bedrooms, baths, baths, and pools of the hotel — we may just learn a thing or two about producing gorgeous and relaxing indoor and outdoor spaces in our homes this summer.

Pay attention to the ceiling. We all recognize that a foolproof means of drawing up the eyes would be to paint the ceiling but Mykonos Blu goes the extra step with its ceiling paint color, an electric blue that’s rich and deep like the sea that encircles it. The ceiling is almost aglow, like it is picking up the glimmer of the sea and sun streaming in from the outside.

Mix stripes and prints. Solid blue, light blue; thin stripes and thick stripes; tufted and simple. This bath sitting room would make a lounger out of anyone, using its artful mixture of green and blue throw cushions and its tufted seat pillow. The stripes and prints on the banquette contrast nicely with the smooth and impartial finish of the cement floors and whitewashed walls. Plastered ceilings were painted white, forming a base for its bluish patina coating that was created from a conventional coloring method.

Bring indoor furniture outside. Who says your rattan daybed can’t find the light of day? The only thing I would change here will be the placement of the furniture piece; I would rearrange it based on where the color is at any given time of day.

This villa suite is another great example of bringing the indoors outdoors. The television, speakers, sofa — and yes, the mattress, are only steps away from a tiny outdoor pool; the division of indoor and outdoor spaces is virtually nonexistent once the glass doors are pulled into the side.

Stretch your outside time with just a little shade. A canopy in the form of shade sails or an actual roofed section creates a significant difference when you are spending a great deal of time outside. I would likely soak in this pool to get an extra few hours only because you can with this kind of partial shade and coverage.

Don’t underestimate the plan energy of trees. Sure, it is nice to have an unobstructed view of the sea from within an infinity pool. However, something about the palm trees’ presence heightens the calming effect of this outdoor pool, do not you believe? Deck chairs with head cushions and overhead shade sails mean an excess hour outside — along with a tan instead of a sunburn.

Four-poster mattress frames create good sun loungers. Perfectly suited for parents that wish to break up in the shade together with the little ones or for people that wish to stretch out completely, this bed-turned-lounger will make it effortless for anyone to exhale. And inhale. And exhale.

Get the appearance of falling rainwater using a rain shower. We’ve all dreamed of implanted beneath a waterfall, and that explains exactly why a rainwater shower that’s perched high in the bathroom ceiling is indeed great. The pairing of this rain shower and skylight provides the illusion of an outside shower — it is soothing to check at, and showering in it in real life is likely mind blowing.
