Craftsman Front Doors Make an Entry

This spring my husband and I’m removing the old fashioned storm door and energy-inefficient glass front door on our house and replacing them with one Craftsman front door. The update has me breathless.

Known for its mathematical design, a typical Craftsman-style front door has three split windows (known as lites) above a large ledge with dentil molding and three horizontal panels. Typically installed on homes with porches or porticos, the Craftsman door is too lovely to be covered by a storm door.

I have yet to decide if we’ll paint it à la FGY Architects or keep it natural like RW Anderson’s designs under; either way I’m really anticipating this major architectural update it provides.

How to Select a Front Door

Goforth Gill Architects

The front door of Goforth Gill features one lite rather than three ones that are split. It boasts two sides.

Story & Space – Color Guidance and Interior Design

A classic Craftsman front door looks beautiful on this Northern California cabin. Together with the outside painted Benjamin Moore’s French Beret along with the trim done in Hot Apple Spice, the natural end to the door is exactly what the doctor ordered.

LLC, Melaragno Design Company

Featuring a 17-by-41-inch casement window, a dragonfly door knocker and contrasting trim, this Simpson-brand Craftsman front door is seriously adorned.

RW Anderson Homes

On close inspection you’ll notice that this door features lites with detailed glass. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs, this design that is otherwise straightforward is fancified by three glass panels.

Architect, Dorothy Howard AIA

This Southern California entryway greets you with a wooden Craftsman front door, sidelights, a porch swing and cottage-style lighting. Welcome!

FGY Architects

Perfectly positioned below a porch, this custom made Craftsman door has three large lites. In black it supplies a dramatic entry.

Bill Fry Construction – Wm. H. Fry Const. Co..

Rich Eldorado stone along with a wooden front door combine to make the warmest of warm entryways. Most Craftsman front doors have only a ledge and dentil molding on the outside side of the door, much enjoy this beauty.

Echelon Custom Homes

Perfectly suited to seaside cottage living, a no-muss, no-fuss naturally experienced Craftsman door would be the best choice for ocean breezes and salty air.

FGY Architects

Flanked by planters, windows and lanterns, this Craftsman entry could not be more inviting. I especially adore the gray and white colour palette.

Harrell Remodeling, Inc..

Although this door has only two lites, it will feature bonus side lites and a decorative transom window, all with ornate leaded glass.

Tali Hardonag Architect

Californians love a nice Craftsman front door. Framed attractively with a lite on every side, this wooden door that is rich screams Northern California.
